Armenag Aprahamian, president of the National Council of the Republic of Western Armenia, noted that today it is possible to establish direct contact with the reality of Western Armenia and Armenia and present them.

The President highlighted the fact that Western Armenia actively participated in the First Artsakh War with  its volunteers and freedom fighters. “We also did a lot of work to raise the Armenian National Army. All of these are a historical reminder, but a real fact that many people know. Our participation in the liberation army and our joining the initiatives of  Leonid Azgaldyan and others was a decisive moment in the history of our struggle,” said President Armenag Aprahaman.

According to Armenag Aprahamian, it is important to correctly understand how and in what spirit the state system of Western Armenia was restored. “In Shushi, on 17 December, 2004, we established the National Council of Western Armenia. Since that day, I have served as the president  of that council. We have done great work to strengthen our state structures and prove the right of our people to have their own state in their historical homeland,” said Armenag Aprahamian.

Armenag Aprahamian recalled that the government of Western Armenia was formed back on 4  February, 2011, having a direct connection with Shushi and Artsakh. He noted that these facts testify to the historical and political ties between Western Armenia and Artsakh.

“In 2013, we created the National Assembly of Western Armenia with elected deputies. They elected a  chairperson  and at that time I was elected as the President of the Republic of Western Armenia. All this is fundamentally related to the recognition of the status and historical rights of our people. We present ourselves as an indigenous nation with our culture, identity, and traditions,” he said.

Armenag Alrahamian emphasized that the Republic of Western Armenia has been a recognized state since 1917 by Russia, and de facto recognition was enshrined in international treaties in January 1920. “For nineteen years now, we have been participating in international work to protect our rights and present our historical truth,” he noted.

President Aprahamian added that over the years, various changes have occurred in the system: some prime ministers have temporarily left, but the main goal has remained the same: to actively develop and strengthen the state system of Western Armenia. “We are obliged to continue our work, presenting Armenia, Artsakh and showing the whole world that Western Armenia not only exists, but has also restored its state structure. We revived after the genocide of our people and continue to fight for our rights,” concluded President Armenag Aprahamian.
