Every year, the motto of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is celebrated on April 18, is “Let’s Preserve Our Historical Homeland.”

The day, also known as World Heritage Day, was established in 1982 during the congregation of the International Council on Monuments and Sites at UNESCO (ICOMOS).

The holiday has been celebrated since 1984 to draw public attention to the protection and preservation of world cultural heritage. It also provides an opportunity to raise public awareness about the diversity of the World Heritage Sites, and  efforts to preserve and protect it.
