A meeting with Artsakh Armenians was held at the Yerevan Mission of Western Armenia.

During the meeting, the President  of the National Council of Western Armenia, Armenag Aprahamian, delivered a speech.

During his speech, Armenag Aprahamian emphasized that  more than one hundred-year history of the Eastern Legion continues to arouse great interest today. He recalled that the Legion was formed at the initiative of France, uniting Armenian volunteers for the fight against the Ottoman Empire. In those years, according to him, the Armenian forces played an important role not only in national, but also in international security issues.

Due to Armenag Aprahamian, the main goal of the Legion was the liberation of Kilikia and the formation of the Armenian national army. He noted that during that period the Armenian people were struggling to restore their own statehood and preserve their identity. The latter also recalled the activities of the Armenian National Council of Tbilisi, which withdrew from the Armenian resistance by signing the Treaty of Batumi with the Turkish regime.

In addition Armenag Abrahamyan touched upon the complex historical events of 1918–1920, emphasizing that at that time the Armenians simultaneously experienced the achievement of independence and new losses. After the creation of Soviet Armenia, the speaker noted, the Artsakh issue became the next important stage in the political struggle of the Armenian people.

President Armenag Aprahamian also spoke about the new reality that has emerged after 2021, when the Artsakh issue was transferred to the international legal plarform. According to him, dozens of applications have already been submitted to international courts regarding human rights violations, forced displacements, and property protection. He emphasized that these processes must continue in a coordinated manner, since the rights of Armenians are subject to international protection.

Armenag Aprahamian emphasized the need for a unified approach to the homeland. According to him, it is necessary to exclude those mistakes that may harm legal processes and properly ensure the combination of the professional potential of Western Armenia and Artsakh. He emphasized that a correct legal strategy can ensure not only the international recognition of Artsakh’s rights, but also the restoration of historical justice.

At the end of his speech, he noted that Armenia is facing new political and legal challenges, and in that situation, the united and consistent actions of the Armenian people are of vital importance.
