Aghvan Hovhannes TONAKANIAN was born in 1979 in the village of Totkham in the Akhalkalaki region.
In 1986-1996 he studied at the secondary school N13 after Hovsep Orbeli in Hrazdan, Armenia.
After receiving secondary education, in 1996-1998 he studied in Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovian and got a qualification of the inspector-pedagogue.
Then he moved to the Russian Federation. He is married and has four children.
Since 2005 Aghvan TONAKANIAN has been actively engaged in different social works, he has been working with various youth organizations in Russia to deal with various problems of Armenia, Javakhk and Jugha. Since 2012 he is a member of the Council of the Union of Armenians from Javakhk in Russia and heads the youth department.
In Moscow he has actively participated in many events related to Armenia and Armenians, he also took part in different discussions and works carried out on Javakhk issues.
Living in Moscow, Aghvan TONAKANIAN is not indifferent to the problems of Armenian people. He is trying to show his support as much as possible and solve various problems.
For many times he has participated in events dedicated to the Genocide against Armenians, and also in the events dedicated to the Armenians of Kessab. He also took part in various issues related to Syrian-Armenians. He has always served as an example for young people for being Armenian and nationalist, because for Armenians from all over the world their homeland is Powerful Armenia.
Since October 28, 2014, he is a deputy of the Parliament of the Western Armenia Republic.
In June 2017, he was appointed as a president of Juridical Committee of Western Armenia National Assembly.
On October 29 of 2017, during the fifth session of the National Assembly of Western Armenia, he was elected as a President of National Assembly.
