Geographer, explorer and mountaineer Tigran Varag founded the Armenian Geographic project in 2012 and engaged in geographical tourism. After studying the famous and unknown mountains of Armenia and Artsakh, Armenian Geographic has started to study the mountains in Western Armenia in recent years.

Since 2014, we have been studying and discovering the Armenian Highlands, we mean the mountains that are outside the territory of the Republic of Armenia. We were going to Western Armenia for 5-6 days. Ani, Kars, Van, Mush, Erzurum, Bayazet, these are mainly cities, with historical monuments. After seeing it once, our group closed that page. We were more interested in the mountains.

We began to discover the mountains, about which there was no information at all. Roughly said, we reconnected the interrupted connection of 100 years ago in the mountains. Maratuk, Andok, Tsovasar, Varag, Artos, Nemrut. We came across these mountains only in literature, in songs, but we didn’t know at least one person who had climbed it.

For example, everyone knows about Varagavank, it was a Catholicos monastery, Khrimyan Hayrik sat there. For Armenians Varag was considered a sacred mountain, but none of them climbed it, we were the first.
