Last weekend, two important conferences to Western Armenia took place in the city of Saint-Chamond.
The first conference dealt with the current realities of Western Armenia, and the second was on the issue related to the genocide of Armenians carried out in the territory of Western Armenia. The events took place in the parish hall of the Armenian Cultural Center.
The first conference was organized by Western Armenia MPs Martiros Chakoyan and Simon Daronian, and the second by the center’s president Jeanne Goerian. Both conferences were attended and addressed by Armenag Aprahamian, the president of the National Council of Western Armenia. The second conference was moderated by Professor Maurice Dolmajyan.
A number of prominent figures were present during the meetings: French MP Emmanuel Mandon, who on 18 September, 2025 organized a meeting in the National Assembly dedicated to the Artsakh issue, former MP Francois Rochebloine, who on 29 January, 2001 presented the report on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Jean-Luc Degre, Deputy Mayor, Ivan Oriol, President of the Malatia Union Grigor Nalbandyan, Priest of the Armenian Catholic Community Rafael Shefikyan, Member of the Regional Council and Deputy Mayor Alin Museghyan, as well as MPs of Western Armenia Razmik Khachatryan and Farhat Nazaretyan.
After a minute of silence dedicated to the memory of the Armenian victims, MP Mardiros Chakoyan opened the conference, introducing the topic of discussion and congratulating those present on behalf of the President of the National Council of Western Armenia, Armenag Aprahamian.
The conference also mentioned the legal obligations of Turkey, various states and international organizations towards the Armenian people and Western Armenia.
In addition, the new challenges and problems facing the Armenian people of Western Armenia and Artsakh on the path of national reorganization, as well as the application of strategic, legal and political mechanisms based on the state structure, were discussed.
Both conferences brought together more than a hundred participants.
Numerous questions were raised regarding the issue of Western Armenia and the right of self-determination of the Armenians of Western Armenia, which has already been recognized by some states and international organizations.
Armenag Aprahamian, referring to the claims regarding the rights of Artsakh Armenians and the documents submitted to the European Court of Human Rights. He noted that Western Armenia calls on all states that participated in or contributed to the genocide committed against Armenians to answer for their actions and assume their responsibility. He called on all Armenian structures in the Diaspora to stop the denial of the existence of Western Armenia and to end any discriminatory treatment towards the indigenous people of Western Armenia, the descendants of the survivors of the genocide.
